Every borough of New York City has its own way out to Connecticut. A truck from Staten Island faces a very different trip than a truck from the Bronx. This guide from Two Guys And a Truck gives you the route from your borough and a simple plan for the weeks before the move.
We move you between the five boroughs of New York City and Connecticut. We do not do moves that start and end inside Connecticut.
Borough by borough: how the truck gets there
All five routes end on I-95, the main truck road along the Connecticut shore. Trucks and commercial vehicles cannot use the Hutchinson River Parkway or the Merritt Parkway, so the truck stays on I-95 or other truck routes.
- The Bronx. This is the shortest trip. The truck gets on I-95 in the borough and heads north.
- Manhattan. The FDR Drive and the Henry Hudson Parkway are closed to trucks. The truck uses city streets to reach the RFK Bridge or the Cross Bronx Expressway.
- Queens. The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, the Throgs Neck Bridge and the RFK Bridge all carry trucks to the Bronx side.
- Brooklyn. The truck rides the BQE (I-278) north into Queens and crosses the RFK Bridge.
- Staten Island. This is the longest trip. One way is the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to the BQE. Another is across a bridge into New Jersey and north to the George Washington Bridge. We pick the one with less traffic on your day.
A week-by-week plan
Four to six weeks out. Ask for a written estimate. Show us every room, the closets and any storage unit. A better list means a better estimate.
Three weeks out. Ask both buildings what they need. Many NYC buildings want a certificate of insurance and a freight elevator booking. We provide COI. Check if your Connecticut home has a steep driveway or a low wire over the road.
Two weeks out. Start packing the rooms you use least. Mark each box with its room. Give away or sell what you will not take, since it costs time to move.
One week out. Read the FMCSA booklet "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move." We give it to you with your estimate. Confirm the pickup date, the delivery date and both addresses.
Moving day. Walk through the inventory with the crew. Read the bill of lading before you sign it. It is your contract.

Common questions
Which borough is the easiest to move from?
The Bronx, since I-95 runs right through it. Staten Island usually takes the longest, because the truck must cross the harbor or go through New Jersey first.
Can you move me from Connecticut to Staten Island or Brooklyn?
Yes. We move in both directions, to and from all five boroughs.
Do you take jobs where the old home and new home are both in Connecticut?
No. Each of our moves has one end in New York or New Jersey.
